We were well represented in 5th grade in the Dilworth Spelling Bee. Our 6 classroom bee winners were Eden Barua, Ben Carter, Emma Kate Johnson, John Leone, Kaelan Velasco, and Jason White. WAY TO GO!!!
5th graders took both 1st and 2nd place in the school bee this year. Emma and Ben will be representing Dilworth in the city bee on Saturday, March 21! Good luck! In 5th grade, we have a monthly reward activity for students who turn in their assignments and behave well in class. For the February reward, students came up with Minute To Win It games. 5th graders rotated to stations manned and operated by their peers.

We haven't had many snow days this winter, but we definitely got one today! At the zoo, we learned lots about various animal adaptations, observed many animals, and even had a chance to play in the snow ourselves! Our February book report was a puzzle. Each square gave a piece of the story: the title, characters, setting, plot, events, climax, resolution, or our rating of the book.
As one of this year's "Spirit Days" chosen by the Student Council (Peer Leadership Team), we celebrated Clown Day. Once again, our fabulous room parents planned holiday parties for us! THANK YOU!
We had a marvelous (if somewhat hyper) Valentine's Day! (Click on the images below for enlargements.) All three 5th grade classes had the opportunity to attend a Traits Class at the Natural History Museum of Utah and the Symphony at Abravanel Hall. (Ms. Redmon's class did both on the same day.)
At the Natural History Museum, we:
We've worked really hard to learn how to write essays based on reading non-fiction text. We are WRITING NINJAS! We are able to write 5-paragraph informational essays and persuasive essays. We can come up with a three-part thesis statement in about a minute!
Just before our end-of-the-year writing SAGE test, we made videos in class titled "How to Take an Essay Test." This was just one way we reviewed the things we learned. Here are some great examples of essays we've done throughout the year: |
